The importance of cito tests, watching your students grow and remember what your goal is.

This month, an interview with student lecturer Sara. She studies medicine in Maastricht and likes to supervise young children. Sara talks about the growth of her students and why it is important for students to remember what their goal is. You can read all that and more in this blog!

Who are you? What do you do in daily life? And what do you do at Studied?

My name is Sara and last year I moved from the East to the South to study in beautiful Maastricht. I am now in my second year of Medicine at Maastricht University. In my spare time, I really enjoy making music and exercising. At Studied, I mainly teach math and languages, but I also regularly give the cito training courses.

Which subject do you like to teach the most?

The most fun thing about teaching at Studied is the cito training courses. I really enjoy working with young children and I believe that the cito tests are very important. This is the basis and it should be in the right place. That's why you often see these students make big leaps and bounds within a short period of time.

What do you love about teaching at Studied?

What I like most is watching the students grow. They often develop not only in terms of professional content. You often also see a development on a personal level. They become more confident, enjoy studying the subject more and are motivated to achieve their goal.

What do most students have trouble with?

I think most students have trouble reading properly. I see this coming back regularly, regardless of the profession. That is why I try to teach this to students directly from the students. Over time, they notice that they come to understand the importance of reading carefully, so they focus on the questions.

How do you ensure that your students progress?

I think it's important to be flexible and to respond to what's happening in the moment. During a trial lesson, a lesson plan is drawn up and the lessons expire based on that. I also often notice that students get stuck at a certain point in the lesson plan and I think it is important to respond to that, to continue with it and eventually continue the lesson plan again. In my opinion, it's also important to keep everything personal. If two students have to learn the same material for the same test, this does not mean that they need exactly the same help. Customization and flexibility are therefore very important. I think my students are progressing in this way.

What is your most important tip for students?

I think my most important tip for students is to learn how to maintain focus, concentration and (above all) motivation. After all, this is extremely important for the rest of your academic career. This will work well for each student in a different way. But, I think it at least helps everyone to remember what you're doing it for.

What is your most important tip for the final exams?

I think it's important to set priorities, plan well and keep calm. After all, the central exams are often not that much more difficult than the school exams. Only the amount of dust is more. It is important that you can separate the main issues from the side issues.

How important do you find the connection with your students?

It is very important to have a good connection with the students. They need to trust you so they're comfortable enough to ask questions and point out what they don't understand. Without a click, that will be difficult, and the lessons will also be less fun.

Do you find it easy to combine your work with your other activities?

I certainly like to combine work with studying and my free time. Together with your students, you plan the lessons at a time that is convenient for both. This makes it easy to combine work with other activities.

Would you recommend working at Studied? And why?

I would definitely recommend working at Studied! I really enjoy being able to help children in education. In addition, it is easy to combine with studying and free time, while I am also developing myself.
